Resolved, the House of Bishops concurring,
That the 80th General Convention denounces the ongoing dissolution of civil rights in the United States; and be it further
Resolved, that the Episcopal Church commits to hosting Conventions, conferences, and other church wide events in locations where the state and local jurisdictions do not infringe upon the rights and dignity of all attendees, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, class, immigration status, or creed; and be it further
Resolved, that the Episcopal Church enter into contracts with venues whose policies are aligned with the resolutions of General Convention, with specific, but not exclusive, attention to gender identity, race, sexual orientation, and immigration status.
Explanation
As a Church we have a duty of care to our members when selecting locations for our meetings and events. This duty of care calls us to consider equitable treatment by government and venue policy, to ensure that our members are treated by these organizations in full accordance with the all encompassing love of God.
The Episcopal Church has clear stances on these issues within the resolutions of past Conventions. We must now practice what we preach, ensuring we do not bring harm to our members by partnering with institutions which do not honor the Glory of God present within us all.
